Linda Hough

Becoming a Governor at Betley Primary and St Luke’s Primary Schools has certainly brought back many happy memories of working ten years in residential education; both as a House Matron in a private prep school and as a Residential Social Worker (Education) in a specialist primary school for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

I believe the years spent in primary education are crucial foundation blocks for your child’s future growth and development into adulthood.  As a governor I am looking for evidence of a quality education, a wide range of opportunities for all children to enhance their own special gifts and talents (both academic and non-academic), and to see your child happy to learn and explore, and to be thriving at school.

I bring to the role 23 years experience of working in the NHS supporting patients affected by cancer as well as their families, and wider network, including eight years as a manager of a cancer support service across two hospital sites.  I now work part-time as a psychotherapeutic counsellor in private practice.

I love both art and music … and will be the Link Governor for these two subjects.   I am a member of Betley Amateur Theatrical Society and have ‘tread the boards’ in a few plays/musicals, I sing in a church choir, I enjoy watching cricket and rugby union, I love to draw and paint especially using pastels and to be outside in nature, but I am at my happiest in the company of equines be that a graceful shire horse or a stubborn donkey!

As a Christian, I am delighted to have recently been appointed as Foundation Governor at Betley Primary School and to be the ‘guardian of the school’s Christian vision.’  I look forward over the coming weeks, months and years to witness this as a ‘lived reality’ through my visits to school and through engagement with pupils, staff and parents.
