Why you are a Governor
My name is Gemma Whittingham and I am the Head of School at Betley CE Primary School and the Executive Deputy Head of St. Luke’s CE Primary School. Being a governor is a fundamental part of making decisions and giving my insight from school enables appropriate decisions to be made.
Your occupation
I have been teaching for 14 years. My second-year placement was at St. Luke’s and from that point I knew that is where I wanted to work. I taught in Reception at St. Luke’s and thoroughly enjoyed being part of the start of the children’s learning journey. Since 2022, I have been based at Betley Primary School where I am immersed in a loving and supportive community. I am proud to be part of a Federation that always endeavours to provide the children with an engaging, broad curriculum, safe and trusting environment to enable every child to achieve their goals.
A little about me!
Prior to teaching I was part of a day centre team for Staffordshire County Council where I managed a unit that supported day provision for patients with mental health and dementia. I worked there after completing my A Levels in Biology, English Literature and Psychology. Whilst completing my A levels I worked for the NHS in the pathology laboratory analysing antibiotics.
I am always at my happiest when I am with my four children that I am extremely proud of. They keep me very busy! As a family we are very active and always doing some sort of sport.
